Chitta vṛtti
In yoga, this constant movement is referred to as chitta vṛtti, the natural fluctuations of the mind. The practice is not to eliminate this noise, but to stop being pulled along by it. Stillness, in this sense, is not the absence of movement in the mind, but rather the capacity to witness that movement without becoming entangled. We use the breath as an anchor to remain present, even when the experience feels scattered. This creates the space to allow the chatter to take its course, and over time, through the steady regulation of the breath, we begin nurturing the conditions for lasting stillness.
